Workplace Safety Checkup +

A great starting point for any workplace looking to strengthen its health and safety program.

The Workplace Safety Checkup is a free, high‑value assessment designed to give Ontario businesses a clear picture of where they stand. A WSPS Health and Safety Account Manager will review your current practices—either virtually or on-site—and provide a comprehensive report outlining:

  • Key strengths
  • Compliance gaps
  • Priority recommendations

You’ll also receive targeted resources and practical tools — all at no cost — to help you take the next steps toward a safer, more compliant workplace.

Material Handling Assessment +

Keeping workers safe during material handling starts with understanding where the risks are. Our free Material Handling Assessment gives you one‑on‑one support from a qualified WSPS Health and Safety Consultant who will visit your workplace to:

  • Review your current material handling practices
  • Identify hazards that could lead to injuries
  • Recommend practical, sustainable improvements tailored to your operation

This no‑cost assessment helps you reduce strain, prevent incidents, and improve overall safety performance.

Free Consulting Support for Firms with MLITSD Orders +

If your workplace has received MLITSD orders or inspector recommendations, WSPS provides up to 35 hours of free consulting support to help you get back on track.

Eligible organizations receive customized guidance to address compliance issues, reduce risk, and strengthen their health and safety systems. Support may include:

  • Hazard assessments and program development
  • Machine safeguarding and robotics guidance
  • Occupational hygiene testing (air, noise, designated substances)
  • Ergonomic assessments
  • Legal compliance audits and management system reviews
  • Pedestrian safety assessments
  • Workplace violence risk assessments

Workplace Chemical Walk‑Through +

Chemical hazards can be easy to overlook — but they’re critical to control. Our free Workplace Chemical Walk‑Through helps you identify risks related to hazardous products and strengthen your WHMIS compliance.

A WSPS Health and Safety Consultant will:

  • Review how chemicals are stored, handled, and used
  • Identify gaps or unsafe practices
  • Provide a detailed report with recommended controls

Participants also receive access to free resources and are encouraged to join the DIY Workshop: How to Develop Workplace‑Specific WHMIS Training.

On‑Site Ergonomic Walk‑Through +

The Ergonomics in Retail Campaign helps Ontario retailers reduce ergonomic risks and create healthier, more productive workplaces. Running from April 2025 to March 2026, this initiative is delivered in partnership with MLITSD.

Retail clients can access several free opportunities:

  • On‑Site Ergonomic Walk‑Throughs: Identify ergonomic challenges and receive practical solutions
  • Interactive Ergonomics Workshop (February 2026): Explore real‑world issues and proven strategies
  • Ergonomic Checklists: Easy‑to‑use tools for internal assessments or guided reviews

All retailors in Ontario are encouraged to participate.

High‑Risk Needs Assessment (Food & Beverage Wholesale Distribution) +

This targeted assessment helps food and beverage distribution workplaces identify and address high‑risk safety issues unique to warehouse and distribution environments.

Participating organizations receive:

  • A comprehensive on‑site High‑Risk Needs Assessment
  • A detailed report outlining key risks, strengths, and recommended actions
  • Up to 21 hours of free consulting support to close identified gaps

You’ll also gain access to no‑cost solutions such as private training, policy and procedure resources, unlimited downloads, and specialized consulting (as available).

How it works:

  1. Pre‑visit coordination and document review
  2. On‑site assessment (half‑day)
  3. Summary report and action plan
  4. Follow‑up meeting to plan next steps

Learn Safe (for Ontario School Boards) +

Learn Safe provides Ontario school boards with no‑cost training and consulting to improve safety in skilled trades and technology education environments. Funded by WSIB through Skilled Trades Ontario, this initiative supports safer learning spaces for students and staff.

Services include:

  • Tech Shop Inspections: On‑site reviews to identify hazards and promote safe practices
  • Tech Shop Training: Practical sessions to build safety awareness and compliance
  • Online Resources: Free English and French downloads, curriculum support, and educational materials

Eligibility:

  • Available to all public, Catholic, and French‑language school boards
  • Not available to private schools or post‑secondary institutions
  • Includes up to 5 days of on‑site support
