People: Taking Shortcuts Develop resource to review lock locations, access and proximity within a facility, provide best practice to discourage shortcuts Design audible alerts on panels or equipment announcing that locks are required before proceeding, consider automating or designing into the equipment (similar to seat belt alerts in vehicles) – As an example: a lock with an RFID, which communicates with a program to confirm it's been applied Develop resources to help personalize and emphasize the consequences of taking shortcuts; e.g. write a letter to a family member explaining why they didn't come home; or place a picture of a loved one on a lock Develop resources to link workplace safety to public safety, off the job Direct a portion of MLITSD fines to support public safety initiatives
