Mobile Equipment and Pedestrian Safety
As the industry continues to evolve, increased
automation and consumer demand for greater options
is leading to space constraints. This complex, shared
workspace between pedestrians, mobile powered
equipment and vehicles operating in a dynamic
environment can create high-risk scenarios.
Collisions between mobile equipment and pedestrians
as well as contact other mobile equipment or fixed
structures can result in severe or potentially life-
threatening injuries.
An organized workplace, with defined traffic flow, safe
work procedures, training and supervision reduce the
risk of collisions, encourage productivity, and has a
positive bottom-line impact.

Contractor Management
As the industry continues to grow, the demand for
third party contractors will increase. Contractors can
be hired to complete high-risk work that can expose
workers to additional hazards if not adequately
identified, controlled, and communicated.
Effective contractor management is a system of
controls to ensure that contracted services support
safe facility operations.
Identification of potential and actual hazards before
contractors come on site is integral to a successful
program. The entire life cycle of the contract should be
addressed including communication measures in the
event of a near-miss or incident.
