Noise Exposure
Manufacturing of vehicles and their parts can generate
noise in excess of acceptable limits. Although noise
is a common workplace hazard, controls must be in
place to prevent long-term health effects and ensure
communication methods remain suitable.
Repeated or continuous exposure to loud noise
can lead to permanent tinnitus and/or hearing loss.
Noise can disrupt communication and concentration,
mask important warning signs, and potentially lead
to incidents and injuries. Physical and psychological
stress caused by noise can also lead to a decrease in
productivity.
Appropriate protective measures and controls can
be determined by completing a noise level assessment
in the workplace. A comprehensive hearing
conservation program includes regular monitoring of
noise levels, educating workers and supervisors and
conducting audiometric testing to monitor workers'
health over time.
