INDUSTRY LED, RESULTS DRIVEN PAGE | 10 Lisa Hooper, Ontario MLITSD Provincial Ergonomist, emphasized the fact that we need to go beyond training to truly have an impact on MSD incidence. "For MSDs, a more holistic approach that examines the organizational, physical and cognitive contributing factors and integrates MSD prevention into the health and safety system at the organization is key," she said. As workshop facilitator, Melissa noted that there may be opportunity for some quick wins. "One thing that became evident when listening to the participants was that some of the solutions they suggested may already exist, such as checklists and videos. So, in some cases, it may be more about getting the right resources to workers and employers rather than starting to create something new," said Melissa. WSPS will perform a comprehensive gap analysis to assess current resources compared to the workshop recommendations. They will work directly with grocery stores of all sizes to disseminate this valuable information and provide them with the tools they need to prevent injury and protect the physical and mental health of all employees. " " "I loved having an ergonomist in the room with us, challenging us to think outside the box, asking questions. It made us think differently about how we work." —Penny Niece, Metro Worker Representative
