SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
This section describes safe work practices and procedures to be used in
the event of an accidental release of the hazardous product (spill or loss
of containment).
6.1 Personal Precautions, Protective Equipment, and
Emergency Procedures
Eliminate ignition sources, ventilate area.
Do not breathe vapors and biproducts. Avoid substance
contact by all routes of entry.
Wear Butyl Rubber Gloves, use Self Contained Breathing
Apparatus Respirator.
This area provides the following information:
Personal Precautions: specific actions to be taken to prevent exposure
following a spill of the hazardous product. Examples: eliminate ignition
sources, ventilate area, etc.
Protective Equipment: required personal protective equipment to safeguard
against skin, eye, and respiratory exposure. Examples: wear Butyl Rubber
Gloves, use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus Respirator, etc.
Emergency Procedures: instructions and guidance provided for
responding to spills and leaks of the hazardous product. This can include
recommendations for evacuation and when to contact emergency services.
6.2 Methods for Containment and Cleaning Up
Only trained spill responders should attempt to deal with
spilt materials.
Evacuate the area. Control area access.
If safe, eliminate all ignition sources.
If safe, ventilate area of spill.
If safe, stop spill at its source.
Do not let material enter drains. May cause an explosion.
Cover drains. Collect and/or pump spilt materials. Use spill
absorbent where required (e.g. Chemizorb). Collect into
sealed containers and dispose of in accordance with
section 13 of this SDS.
This area provides the following information:
Methods for Containment: methods recommended for preventing further
leakage or spillage of the hazardous product (stopping the source of the
release). This may include covering drains or capping containers.
Methods for Cleaning Up: techniques and methods outlined to assist with
remediation and cleanup of the spilt or leaked hazardous product. May
include recommendations for chemical neutralization, dilution, absorbent
materials, or specialized equipment (ex. HEPA vacuums).
