LANDSCAPE ONTARIO – WORKPLACE SAFETY TAILGATE TALKS 64 © 2026, WSPS.CA LADDERS Personal Protective Equipment Equipment Hazards ? What are some common causes of ladder incidents? ! An average of 211 lost-time injury claims are reported every year in Ontario due to ladder related injuries alone (WSIB, 2024). Prevention Points Ladders are designed for one person use, not group use. All ladders should be CSA Z11-18 approved and regularly inspected. Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 11 before performing any task. Before use: All damaged ladders should be tagged with "DANGER – DO NOT USE." Set up: Always assess the site for electrical lines (never use aluminum ladders around electricity), tree branches, or other obstacles which can affect the ladder position/security. Always remember to look up before moving a portable ladder. Never erect a ladder on any moveable object/item. The base should be fixed and permanent.
