LANDSCAPE ONTARIO – WORKPLACE SAFETY TAILGATE TALKS 38 © 2026, WSPS.CA ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS Personal Protective Equipment ? What are three precautions to take when severe weather occurs during working hours? ! Emergency preparedness training (including environmental hazards) should be taken to ensure your workers understand what safe protocols should be taken to stay protected in any situation. Prevention Points As the result of working outdoors, outdoor workers need to be aware of the potential hazards they are exposed to in their working environments such as exposure to sun, rain, cold and hot weather, severe weather conditions and even the rough terrain. These working conditions can cause unexpected hazards and workers need to be trained accordingly. Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 11 before performing any task. Sun Exposure Take breaks indoors, if possible. Rest in a shaded area for a few minutes every hour. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Protect exposed skin such as the face, neck, hands, forearms, ears, etc., from the sun using sun protection, e.g. hats, clothing, etc.
