What can we do to prevent these hazards? ! Knowing where underground and overhead uilities are on your jobsite could save your life. Prevention Points Every site may be serviced by one or more utilities. Whether electrical, gas, telephone, water service, cable, fibre optics, etc., it is critical to verify the existence and location of each utility before working at any jobsite using an approved locate service provided. Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 11 before performing any task. A written utility clearance must be obtained prior to digging. Ensure appropriate supervision is always available to clarify the details of the job or concerns which may arise. Verify the plan for the utility locations are correct (address, etc.).
