LANDSCAPE ONTARIO – WORKPLACE SAFETY TAILGATE TALKS 90 © 2026, WSPS.CA Shut off the driver and stop the power source if the auger jams. Turn the auger backwards until clear. When using a two person auger, ensure there is good communication (verbally and with eye signals) between the operators and both operators are equally matched in terms of physical strength. If one person let's go unintentionally the post hole auger can swing around and cause serious injury to the person left holding the equipment (broken ribs often result). Never set the machine down while running. Disconnect spark plug if servicing. Never leave an open hole unattended or without boarding. ACTION! Show your crew members how to properly use the equipment for the task at hand.
