What are the best practices this organization demonstrates when handling and working with fuels? ! Fuels are very dangerous because they are highly flammable or explosiveness and can be extremely toxic if swallowed, which can lead to serious injuries, illnesses or death. Prevention Points Fuels are a common cause of fire in our industry. Consider these prevention tips before handling fuels: Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 11 before performing any task. Store fuels in certified labeled containers appropriate to the fuel type. Flame arresters should be present. Do not smoke, operate electrical tools or other sources of spark when you are handling fuels. Turn off cell phones when working around fuels. Do not fuel any vehicle or machine while they are running. Always let the engine cool before refuelling. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Always ensure there is an ABC class extinguisher nearby when working with any fuel.
