LOCKOUT TAGOUT (LOTO) TRAINING GUIDE 5 340-BQE-01-IMOT © 2024, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) 1 877 494 WSPS (9777) | 905 614 1400 | WSPS.CA 3) Informing Trainees (and Their Supervisors) of Periodic LOTO Retraining. According to the CSA standard, retraining should be delivered periodically, but the intervals should not exceed three (3) years. Additional training could take place sooner if assessments show that procedures are not followed properly, if the machinery has changed, if the worker is assigned to a new area or if they need to use LOTO procedures they have not used before. Periodic LOTO retraining should be on both the learner's and their supervisor's radar so there will be no surprises or excuses in the future. Let learners know that they do not need to wait for the next scheduled training. If they feel they need a refresher sooner, make sure you are available. Taking these considerations into account and making steps to be prepared in advance of, during and after training will help you deliver effective and impactful LOTO training to your co-workers and colleagues. For more information about building an effective training program, review CSA Z1001, and for specific information about what training is required, review section 7.5.2 of CSA Z460:20.
