Ensure workers have the physical space to position themselves safely for manual material handling tasks without obstructions. Workers should be able to work in a neutral position, without twisting the back and neck, or reaching far out from the body or overhead. 2. Avoid designing work that requires workers to reach far out from the body or overhead by organizing the work properly. This may include storing heavier items between chest and thigh level. 1 2 3. Ensure workers know how to lift materials safely, including understanding how to maintain neutral position and lift using their leg and glute muscles. Train workers how to lift safely, monitor to confirm that they are lifting properly, and listen to worker concerns. 3
