More than 85% of respondents had employees working from home during
the pandemic. Among them, 93% said they offered some form of assistance.
However, there were areas where employers indicated higher degrees of
support than employees did.
Mental health: 11% of employees vs. 30% of employers
Ergonomic review: 9% of employees vs 24% of employers
Cell phones: 28% of employees vs 44% of employers
Overall, 61% of respondents say that employees working from home will
continue as part of the new business model. Nearly 40% say they have given
up at least some of their traditional office space.
Since March 2020, Steelcase has conducted more than a dozen studies with
over 57,000 employees and business leaders in 11 countries. In their latest
report, The New Era of Hybrid Work, they note that employees are looking for:
Belonging: A sense of community, trust and shared purpose.
Control: More control over where, when and how they work.
Productivity: Equal support for in-office and remote workers to focus,
collaborate and build relationships.
Comfort: Places to rejuvenate and support wellbeing.
Safety: Be and feel physically and psychologically safe.
They recommend creating "neighbourhoods" in the office that support
individual and team work, designing spaces that are module, mobile and multi-
purpose, offering public and private spaces, and braiding digital and in-person
teamwork together.
