WHAT A Hazard Prevention Program (HPP) is an essential component to manage workplace risks effectively. An HPP is unique to an organization, its work duties and work environment. It promotes reduction of work related hazards and risks, including ergonomic and psychosocial hazards. WHY An HPP is required as per the Canada Labour Code (CLC) Part II (s.125(1)(z.03)) and is prescribed within the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (COHSR) Part XIX. Combined with health and safety management training, a well maintained and documented HPP will support "due diligence", help meet legal requirements, and prioritize preventive measures for better resource allocation. HOW The HPP formalizes and provides consistent processes for the proactive identification, assessment and control of health and safety hazards within an organization.
