How Noise Can Hurt You Noise that is 85 Decibels A-Weighting or greater, for more than eight hours a day, can cause permanent hearing loss. Sample noise levels: Grinding 90-105 Decibels Plasma Cutting 95-115 Decibels Drill Press 75-85 Decibels CNC 70-100 Decibels How to Tell if Noise is Hurting You n Ringing or other noises in your ears. n You have a hard time hearing people when they talk. n Unable to hear high pitched or soft sounds. Hearing Protection Devices n Rolldown Foam Ear Plugs: Spongy, soft compressed or shaped prior to insertion. Expandable for snug fit. Disposable. n Pre-molded Plugs: Soft, flexible material preformed to fit the ear. Must be fitted for each ear. Reusable. Wash after each use. n Earmuffs: Adjustable headband with soft cups and cushions that seal around the ear.
