HOW TO READ A WHMIS SAFETY DATA SHEET WSPS.CA 9 305-BST-01-IMDO © 2024, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) 1 877 494 WSPS (9777) | 905 614 1400 | WSPS.CA COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS (cont'd) When considering Exposure Assessment Strategies, always prioritize sampling for ingredients with i) higher concentrations; and ii) lower OELs. Data obtained from air sampling can be used to identify whether compliance has been met with OELs. In this example, since the relative concentrations of both Methanol and Methanoic Acid are high, both ingredients would be prioritized for air exposure assessments. The CAS Numbers of the materials can be used to identify the appropriate air sampling method. Examples of validated air sampling methods can be found at the following: – Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) – Workplace Air Contaminants (Québec) – National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Manual of Analytical Methods (2014-151) (USA) – Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Sampling and Analytical Methods (USA)
