HOW TO READ A WHMIS SAFETY DATA SHEET WSPS.CA 25 305-BST-01-IMDO © 2024, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) 1 877 494 WSPS (9777) | 905 614 1400 | WSPS.CA Methanol (Component) – Acute Toxicity • Oral LD50: 101.2 mg/kg – symptoms nausea and vomiting • LC 50 (Inhalation): 3.2 mg/L – 4 hours – symptoms respiratory irritation • Skin LD50: 321.34 mg/kg – Skin Corrosion/Irritation • Rabbit: no skin irritation • Drying out resulting in rough and chapped skin – Serious Eye Damage/Eye Irritation • Rabbit: no eye irritation – Respiratory or Skin Sensitization • Guinea Pig: no respiratory sensitization – Germ Cell Mutagenicity • Ames test: negative • Mouse Bone Marrow: negative – Carcinogenicity • Did not show carcinogenic effects in animal testing. – Reproductive Toxicity • No data available – Specific Target Organ Toxicity – Single Exposure • May damage eyes, skin, liver, kidneys and central nervous system. • Acute oral toxicity produces nausea and vomiting. • Acute inhalation toxicity produces irritation to respiratory tract. The manufacturer has also provided toxicological information for each of the individual ingredients found within the hazardous product. In this example, Methanol and Methanoic Acid components are shown.
