Equipment Hazards

Rolling over or overturning an ATV is one of the leading fatal
incidents, typically as a result of excessive speed, unstable load,
rough terrain, and excessive incline.

The key to improving rider safety begins with wearing the
proper protective equipment and training. Occupant ejections
and rollovers are the most common incidents which result in
serious injuries or fatalities.
Prevention Points
Although valuable tools in many situations, ATVs can be extremely
dangerous in the hands of an untrained worker. Consider these
prevention points:
Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section
on page 11 before performing any task.
Practice safe riding techniques at all times.
– Stay alert and avoid distractions
– drivers should never use cell phones during operation.
– Keep all hands, arms, legs, and feet inside the confines of the
vehicle at all times.
Avoid paved surface – pavement may seriously affect handling
and control.
