ELECTRICAL HAZARDS
Personal Protective Equipment
?
What are some ways we can prevent incidents when dealing
with electrical hazards?
!
Overhead power lines and contact with buried cables while
digging are two major sources of injuries and fatalities.
Prevention Points
Workers need to be aware of their surroundings including
overhead wires; downed power lines; and underground wires
(Refer to Utilities). Here are other considerations when working
around electrical hazards:
Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section
on page 11 before performing any task.
Call utilities to locate underground wires before digging.
Always be aware of overhead power lines to avoid contact.
Comply with the 10-foot power line clearance rule.
Use a portable GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) for
added protection.
Always follow electrical lockout procedures when servicing
or repairing electrical equipment or tools.
