One critical aspect that demands attention is racking safety. Warehouse or storage room racking systems, while indispensable for optimizing storage space, pose safety risks that, if overlooked, can lead to accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. This safety resource is a quick guide to racking safety and best practices, that can be used to foster a secure work environment and give employees the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate and mitigate potential hazards associated with racking systems. 1. Ensure racking is in good condition and appropriate for the items to be stored on the racks. 2. Always be aware of the load capacity of the racks you use. 3. Ensure racking is installed as per the manufacturers instructions. 4. Provide training to the supervisor who oversees your warehouse/ storage area so they can identify hazardous conditions in your racking system. 5. Provide training to Joint Health and Safety Committee members/Health and Safety representatives, so they are able to identify hazardous conditions when conducting workplace inspections.
