3. HAZARD ASSESSMENTS
Hazard assessments were identified as an emerging issue by 22% of respondents.
This may be a result of heightened awareness and vigilance as a result of the pandemic among employers and
employees. Both parties are likely more mindful of the need to apply the hazard assessment methodology to a
broader range of hazards to ensure they are taking all reasonable precautions.
Sadly, the number of incidents of violence, bullying and harassment in the workplace continues to be a significant
issue. Employers in Ontario are expected to have a workplace violence program in place that includes a risk
assessment and measures to prevent or protect employees from violence. This may be why it is top of mind and
made the list of emerging issues.
