Mobile powered equipment (such as lift trucks/rider lift
trucks), vehicles and pedestrians can pose significant risks.
The combination can have costly consequences including
serious harm or death to workers, damage to property
(including equipment, building, or racking systems), costly
downtime, and hefty fines.
Loading Docks
Loading docks are a frequently congested work
environment with equipment, goods, and people, exposed
to weather, often in tight, dimly lit spaces. These conditions
can easily lead to injuries and property losses.
Loading and Unloading Trailers
Loading and unloading trailers can pose unique risks of
worker injury or fatality. Falling from the loading dock due
to trailer creep, premature departure; or breaking through
fragile trailer flooring name just a few of the risks.

Slips, Trips and Fall Hazards
Challenge
Preventing slips, trips and falls should be a goal of every
safe and healthy workplace. Almost 20 per cent of all lost-
time injury claims in Ontario involve slips, trips, and falls. A
robust housekeeping program, including prompt clean-up
of spills, can be an important means to mitigate the risk.
Working at heights, including the use of ladders and mobile
access platforms, can also pose significant risk in the
workplace. Effective workplans, policies and programs
should be developed in a collaborative fashion. Involving
key stakeholders, including affected workers, can go a long
way to ensure safe conditions and practices are developed,
applied, and maintained, critical for successful risk
mitigation.
