ASWP14 Stumper Operation 4.0 Mandatory Information / Work Practices The following are the general mandatory requirements for an arborist when working with a stumper to remove tree stumps. Operators shall wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Only Qualified personnel may operate a stumper Routine inspection and maintenance shall be completed as per the manufacturer's instruction Do not wear jewelry or clothing that may or could become entangled in moving parts Secure long hair so that it does not become entangled in moving parts Never work near or on cutter wheel unless Lockout procedures have been followed Everyone must be clear of secure work area during operation (refer to Figure 2) Ensure locates have been obtained Inspect stumper prior to use Ensure all guards and protective devices are operational and in place prior to operation Ensure manufacturer's instructions are readily available and have been understood by the operator Transport the stumper as per manufacturer's instructions 5.0 Work Practice The following information will provide general information that is required when working with a stumper to remove tree stumps. Note: Refer to owner / operator manuals for specific stumper operation / maintenance. 5.1 Pre-operational Checks Step Action Inspect stumper • Inspect as per the manufacturer's instructions • Ensure guards and shields are in place and operational • Ensure the manufacturer's instructions are available Inspect cutter wheel • Inspect for damaged or missing teeth Secure work site • Secure work site with traffic control devices and pedestrian barriers as per OntarioTraffic Manual Book 7 Page 126
