Step Action Secure to tree using work positioning lanyard Place work positioning lanyard around the main stem of the tree or a suitably strong limb Ensure that lanyard is secure Check snaps, place weight into lanyard Remove friction hitch Reposition arborist life line to next interim anchor point The worker may use a rope poking tool, pole pruner or throwing knot to advance the rope up the tree. Secure arborist life line to arborist Tie and test friction hitch Slowly place weight into system. Slippage of friction hitch requires redressing of hitch and retesting Release work positioning lanyard Continue ascent Repeat interim anchor point process as required Page 37
