INTRODUCTION
It is important to take note of the shift, but this may not be an indication of
lack of commitment, and instead, a sign of the toll the pandemic has taken.
The pandemic has elevated cases of burnout and exhaustion, and leaders are at
particular risk. The Globe & Mail reported in January that a survey by LifeWorks
and Deloitte Canada released in the summer of 2021 found that 82% of senior
leaders reported feeling exhausted. The top two sources of stress were work
volume compared to pre-pandemic levels, and the desire to provide adequate
support for the wellbeing of staff.

This quote from a respondent in the Managing category may shed some light
on these ratings. "Leadership consumed with pandemic and unable to give time
to overall health and safety."
There are a few instances of discrepancy between employer and employee
perspectives in this year's results, but that is the value of this research. It shines
a light on the degree of alignment, differing viewpoints, and opportunities
for improvement.
This report provides vital insights and tips to help leaders and employees close
both real and perceived gaps. Ultimately, the aim is to provide information
that makes the process of building a healthy, safe, inclusive, and respectful
workplace culture more manageable and achievable.
