As a result, awareness and importance of health and safety and legislative compliance have grown. However, meeting legislative requirements isn't the only thing driving the change. The same percentage of respondents (75%) said that caring for employees was also a key driver of health and safety over the past year. Mental health in the workplace – Mental health was once again listed in emerging issues and this year is ranked number three on the list of respondent's top five concerns. However, it is noteworthy that, even though mental health has been a focus in business and mainstream media over the past year, the number of respondents indicating it is a significant issue hasn't changed. It increased to 70%—a jump of only 3%. Senior leadership – Senior leadership plays a critical role in health and safety success. It landed in third place on the list of drivers for improving health and safety with 51% of respondents noting its importance. While this represented a significant jump over last year's results, it is still comparatively low when you consider that sustainable change must start at the top. Organizational impact and ROI – This year's survey reveals the ultimate ROI, one that has always existed but hadn't necessarily touched all organizations in a real way previously. That is that a culture of health and safety can save lives. It also has a direct impact on engagement, sustainability, performance, and legislation. In this white paper we look at how respondents have progressed over the past year, along with the issues and themes they have highlighted in their responses. We weave insights from subject matter experts into the findings and share resources that readers can use to help them continue their journey along the continuum to become health and safety leaders. Emerging Issues – The following five emerging issues were identified by respondents: 1. Mental health 2. Stress management 3.  Continued infection control of the pandemic 4.  Pandemic management overall 5. Remote work 5
