Here are some other tips on how to accomplish effective and high quality recommendations: ƒ Support the IRS ƒ Promote continuous improvement of IRS performance ƒ Are based on factual, detailed, expert data ƒ Focus on organizational strengths ƒ Incorporate best practices ƒ Address opportunities and threats realistically ƒ Reduce or eliminate health and safety risks and unsafe practices ƒ Eliminate factors that contribute to uncontrolled health and safety hazards ƒ Stop practices that violate legal requirements ƒ Remove barriers to safe work practices Effective recommendations ensure the committee is observing: ƒ Compliance with minimum legislated requirements ƒ The IRS as the building-block for company-wide involvement ƒ Co-operation and understanding More tips for effective recommendations: ƒ If the recommendation is based on some legislated authority, put this information on the form ƒ Track the recommendations at JHSC meetings. They should appear on the agenda until they are resolved or there is a response from management. If there is no response within 21 days, the JHSC should follow-up with management ƒ Make sure to include the facts and evidence that support the recommendation WSPS.CA
