Legislation
Regulation for the Industrial Establishments (Reg. 851) made under the Occupation Health and Safety Act
Section 18: Access Ladder requirements
Section 19: Requirements that permanent platforms shall be provided when frequent access is required
Section 73: Portable Ladder requirements
In some cases, Construction Projects (Reg. 213/91), Health Care and Residential Services (Reg. 67/93),
and Window Cleaning (Reg. 859) may also apply. For example, if work is considered to be construction
work, then the work must be performed in accordance to those regulations, even if the work is
performed in a non-construction setting. Under Regulation 297, mandatory training must be provided for
workers whose jobs require working at heights.
