This training solution has been created, in collaboration with Dr. Martin Shain, a pioneer in workplace mental health advocacy.

  • The evolution of occupational health and safety towards prevention of harm as it relates to mental health.
  • Defining mental injury and psychological safety in the workplace.
  • Why the prevention of mental injury and promotion of psychological safety could and should be the business of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Examining how this work can be done and what the challenges you may face along the way.

Upon completion, you will be able to

  • Use their increased awareness and confidence to be involved in the prevention of mental injuries in their workplace.
  • Discuss the promotion of psychological safety and the evolving expectations to provide a psychologically safe system of work.
  • Proactively assess and address mental health issue in efforts to prevent mental distress or injury in their workplace.

Though the session is targeted to workplaces with 20 or more regularly employed workers across all sectors and sub-sectors, specifically health and safety committee members, it is also open anyone who is interested in starting the conversation to understand how mental injury and mental distress impacts the workplace. The audience will be seeking the knowledge, skills and tools to be more confident and effective when assessing and addressing psychological health and safety risks in their workplace.
