Making Ontario accessible: compliance deadline approaches

Release Date:  May 18, 2011

A series of Ontario regulations now in development aims to break down barriers faced by people with disabilities in everyday life.

The first regulation, with a compliance deadline of January 1, 2012, affects people or organizations that provide goods or services to the public or other third parties. On the heels of this regulation, expect another setting standards for employment of people with disabilities. The Ministry of Community and Social Services anticipates enacting this regulation, which also involves transportation and information and communications, later this year. No compliance deadline has been set. A third regulation will create standards for built environments.

The intent of all three regulations is to make Ontario accessible to people with disabilities, including workers, residents and visitors.
