Prevention System Updates

International Symposium on the Challenges of Workplace Injury Prevention through Financial Incentives - November 29-30, 2012

This symposium, hosted by the Institute for Work & Health will provide a forum for researchers, students, policy-makers, injured worker communities, employer organizations, worker organizations and other stakeholders to discuss the social, economic and policy implications of using financial incentives as a mechanism for preventing workplace injuries. This international, multidisciplinary event will present the latest research on the ideal and actual performance of financial incentives, grouped around these key themes:

  • Behavioural incentives of experience rating
  • Workplace injury prevention
  • Claims and cost management issues

Keynote speakers include:

Harry Arthurs – Chair of the 2012 Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Funding Review
David Walters – Professor at Cardiff University and editor of the international journal of Policy and Practice in Health and Safety
Alan Clayton – Lawyer, academic and independent consultant with decades of system design experience in workers compensation schemes in Australia and New Zealand
Les Boden – Economist and professor at Boston University

The organizing committee is accepting proposals until October 1, 2012 from academic and think-tank scholars, students and community members who wish to make a 20-minute oral presentation at the event.
