Your JHSC certification starts here. First learn the basics.
Certification is a two-step training process. Part One is the first step in training Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members, providing them with a well-rounded understanding of health and safety fundamentals they can apply to their own workplace. Committee members become certified after completing BOTH Part One and Part Two training.
In 2015, the Ministry of Labour (MOL) released a NEW Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Training Program Standard which took effect on March 1, 2016. Visit the Joint Health and Safety Committee, Certification Training Overview page for more information.
This 3-day Part One course is based on the NEW Certification Training Program Standard and is perfect for JHSC members within the Agriculture industry. Participants will receive interactive, instructor-led classroom training that encourages learning and networking. Industry-specific examples, videos and case studies make learning even more relevant.
Whether you choose our generic 'All Sectors' or industry-specific Certification training, all options provide participants with a strong, consistent foundation in health and safety.
Participants should have a solid understanding of English as they will be required to complete an in-class, written MOL certification evaluation.
The minimum requirement for JHSC Certification Part One training is three days (or 19.5 hours). All participants must meet the minimum training requirement to successfully complete the program. If portions of the program are missed, the participant will not be able to write the final evaluation and will be required to retake the training.
This course is delivered in a public classroom and/or can also be delivered in an on-site location.

Upon completion, you will be able to
- Learn about the duties and responsibilities of employers, supervisors and workers as well as workers' rights.
- Learn about hazard recognition, assessment, control and evaluation.
- Learn about the legislative requirements of a JHSC and the functions, powers and duties of its members.
- Find out what the duties and responsibilities of certified members are and how to be an effective committee.
- Know the purpose and understand the principles for conducting effective workplace inspections.
- Learn about the legal requirements for reporting and investigating fatalities and critical injuries.
- Know how to find and use information in the workplace (e.g. statistics) and identify trends.
- Know how to access information and resources from health and safety organizations.
This training is suitable for farming operations with 50 or more regularly employed workers that may be required to have certified members (mushroom, greenhouse, dairy, hog, cattle, poultry).
