Managing Machine Safety

Michael Wilson, B.E.Sc., P. Eng., CMSE®, CRSP, Machine Guarding Specialist, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS)
Workers can be exposed to significant hazards when machines are not properly safeguarded during operation or locked out during maintenance and repair. Exposure to these hazards can result in serious injuries and costly liabilities for employers. This workshops will help you understand the regulatory requirements relating to machine safeguarding and take appropriate steps to protect you and the business from harm.

Managing Pre-Start Reviews

Ron Oriet, CET, Consultant, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS)
Under Section 7 of Ontario's Regulation for Industrial Establishments, employers may need to conduct a pre-start health and safety review (PSR) and implement compliance measures before a new or modified apparatus, structure, protective element or process is put into use. This course helps participants understand the complex requirements of Section 7 and assess whether those requirements apply, and if a PSR is (or is not) required.

Doug Critch, DSP, FS Eng, Technical Support Specialist, Proax Technologies Ltd.
Dave Whitney, Inspector, Ministry of Labour (MOL)
Michael Wilson, B.E.Sc., P. Eng., CMSE®, CRSP, Machine Guarding Specialist, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS)

This interactive panel discussion will address the latest issues in machine safety, share best practices, discuss considerations for the upcoming blitz, and outline opportunities for safety improvement.

Lockout/Tagout Essentials

Carolann Quinlan-Smith, CRSP, Consultant, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS)
An overview of basic lockout/tagout concepts will be discussed. Find out which energies require lockout/tagout and when alternative methods need to be used to control hazardous energy. Plus, walk through a seven step procedure to lockout machinery or equipment.

Managing Robot Safety

Michael Wilson, B.E.Sc., P. Eng., CMSE®, CRSP, Machine Guarding Specialist, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS)
Robots can perform dangerous, demanding and dirty jobs that are unsafe or impossible for people to perform. They are increasingly being used to improve productivity, quality and global competitiveness. On the down side, however, robots can pose serious risks. This course will provide learners with the knowledge to recognize, assess and control risks related to the hazards of industrial robots and robot systems.
