The Ministry of Labour is seeking feedback on two new health and safety tools designed for employers and workers:
"Prevention Starts Here" poster, which explains key features of the Ontario Health and Safety Act to workers in easy-to-understand language
"Prevention Starts Here" Worker Awareness Workbook and Employer Guide, which helps employers introduce workers to the Act, and focuses on the health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers
Both tools respond to recommendations made by the Expert Advisory Panel led by Tony Dean, which consulted extensively with stakeholders across the province in 2010 on Ontario's occupational health and safety system. On December 16, 2011, Minister Linda Jeffrey accepted the resulting Dean Report and its 46 consensus recommendations.
At the announcement, Chief Prevention Officer George Gritziotis commented that his new role is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a real difference, and that the Dean Report will serve as the foundation of his safety strategy.
Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) looks forward to working with clients and stakeholders to provide thoughtful feedback in response to the Ministry's consultation on the poster, Worker Awareness Workbook and Employer Guide.
