Pictograms - Alternative Methods for Reaching Vulnerable Workers
This video was created as part of a Research Exchange Series held in February 2012 and describes the collaborative effort between Workplace Safety and Prevention Services (WSPS) and the Institute for Work and Health (IWH) in the development and evaluation of the use of pictograms and corresponding training for prep kitchen workers across Ontario.
The intervention was targeted to vulnerable workers (those with ESL/low literacy skills) in this service sector. An increase in worker knowledge of musculoskeletal disorders and corresponding pictograms was expected. A decrease in MSD risk practices and discomfort and pain were also anticipated.
The video details the pictogram and training development process and the following pilot study evaluation.
